DIY Body Scrub Recipes

The weekend is coming up soon, and we’re sure you’re looking for some ways to pamper yourself, right? Well, salt and sugar scrubs are one of the best ways to pamper yourself in the comfort of your own home, they’re inexpensive and easy to make, and the best part is, you control what you’re putting on your skin, using ingredients that are good enough to eat - in fact, these recipes are all edible!

All of the recipes below are made with a coconut oil base, but feel free to switch it up and use olive oil, avocado oil, or whatever skin-friendly oil you prefer. We just love the smell and benefits of coconut!

So go ahead and spoil yourself this weekend with one of these DIY tropical body scrub recipes.


1. DIY Coconut Lime Body Scrub

You’ll need:

¼ cup organic virgin coconut oil
½ cup granulated white sugar
¼ cup finely shredded coconut
8-10 drops lime essential oil
How to make it:

Mix the sugar and coconut in a bowl
Add the organic virgin coconut oil and essential oil
Mix and dispense in a jar for storage

Being rich in vitamin c and powerful antioxidants, lime can work wonders for your skin, such as lightening the skin around your elbows, knees, and even underarms. Aside from being a whitening agent, lime can easily get rid of dead skin cells, due to the presence of citric acid. Getting rid of the dead skin cells will leave you with a natural glow that will leave you addicted to this DIY tropical body scrub!


2. DIY Coconut Pineapple Body Scrub

You’ll need:

1 ½ cup granulated white sugar
½ cup organic virgin coconut oil
¼ – ½ cup pineapple puree
How to make it:

Blend the pineapple into a smooth puree
Mix the pineapple with coconut oil in a bowl
Add in the sugar, add more sugar to achieve desired texture
Dispense into jars and store in cooler to keep longer

Also another fruit in the citrus family, pineapple is rich in citric acid and is known to treat body acne and blemishes when used in a body scrub. After massaging the scrub onto your skin, leave the mixture on for a couple of minutes and your body acne should be reduced after regular use! Another good use of pineapple is to smooth the skin on your feet, so be sure to spend a bit of extra time scrubbing this DIY body scrub around your feet!

3. DIY Coconut Coffee Body Scrub

You’ll need:

⅓ cup ground coffee beans
⅓ cup sea salt
⅓ cup granulated white sugar
⅓ cup organic virgin coconut oil
How to make it:

Mix all of the dry ingredients in a bowl
Add the organic virgin coconut oil
Mix and dispense in a jar for storage
