Developed by and named after Joseph Pilates, this super focused form of exercise has a wealth of benefits for the body and overall health, including better core strength, flexibility and muscle tone to name a few. Plus, it’s a great workout for people suffering back and shoulder pain, scoliosis or sports injuries and for pregnant and postnatal women. Established in 2007, Sunset Pilates has long been a happening workout spot for pilates pros and newbies alike. The massive 150 square metre space is is fitted out with all the traditional pilates apparatus like mats, Pilates Reformers, the Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector, Cadillac and Wunda Chair, plus some extras like resistance bands, pilates rings and foam rollers. in addition, each class is designed so that students get personalised attention on the mats and with the equipment, meaning the workouts are safe and effective for students of all skill levels.

Sunset Pilates students come back time after time for the stellar space and the friendliness and professionalism of the instructors. Nancy has been with the studio since 2007 and Rachel since 2009, so they’ve had plenty of time to develop a great rapport with their students and gauge how best to give each student the individual attention they need. Both Nancy and Rachel are certified in the Classical Pilates Method, and the studio adheres to this method because they believe that it allows students to concentrate more on precision without putting too much stress on the body with too many repetitions.

For those who want to up their skills to the next level, the Sunset Pilates’ teacher training program is an extremely comprehensive 780 hour course that follows the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) model. The course covers mat and equipment work as well as classes and research in anatomy and special rehabilitation techniques to correct conditions such as degenerative discs, scoliosis, rotator cuff problems, tendonitis, pregnancy and lower back pain to name just a few. At the end of the course students sit a final exam, and upon successful completion they can apply to sit the PMA exam for international certification.
